We are instructed to rejoice always, and through the...
We are instructed to rejoice always, and through the study of Christian Science we soon learn to do so, not only at all times but under all circumstances and conditions. Often the effort to rejoice even in the face of seeming discord and distress brings to us untold blessings of which we were entirely unaware, though they had always belonged to us as children of God. At times when the way has seemed dark and unpromising, while the clouds of sense seemed to hide spiritual realities, I have endeavored to count my blessings and rejoice, and am glad to testify that I have always found relief and comfort through these efforts to understand and live in accordance with Truth and Love.
The Christmas season marks an anniversary in my experience in Christian Science, for on Christmas day the first treatment was received, and the reading and study of the Bible, together with the Christian Science text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, was begun. This momentous day proved to be a turning-point in my life, the stepping-stone from discord to harmony. I have received many proofs of the healing power of divine Love. A disordered functional condition from which I had suffered for about seven years, and for the relief of which I had continually taken medicine without being healed, has entirely disappeared. The swelling and severe pain from a badly wrenched ankle were permanently removed during my study of one of the Lesson-Sermons. Toothache has been quickly overcome, not only for myself but for others in the family, and it has not returned. Many disagreeable features of disposition have been cradicated, and though there is much work yet to be done, I am grateful for some improvement and rejoice in the good already accomplished.
I am deeply grateful for the pure, unselfish life of our Leader, for the blessings which come while assisting in a small way in the activities of church organization, and for a clearer understanding of the truth, which enables me more fully to appreciate and enjoy the great value of all our literature as well as our lectures, services, and reading-rooms. I am striving to know a little better each day the truth of our Leader's statement (Science and Health, p. 199), "The devotion of thought to an honest achievement makes the achievement possible."
