This testimony is given with a feeling of deep gratitude to God, also with the hope that it may help some one. It was while seeking a religion that I first heard of Christian Science, and was speedily convinced that it was the religion I wanted. That was about sixteen years ago. I purchased a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, and although I did not seem able to understand much of it then, still I felt sure it contained the truth. There were no Christian Scientists where I lived, and I had met only one person who knew anything about this teaching. She had just experienced a wonderful healing through Christian Science, of which she told me.
Four years later our little girl was troubled with worms. I wrote to a Christian Science practitioner forty-five miles away asking for treatment, and in a very short time the child was perfectly healed. In the fall of the same year both our children had whooping-cough, the baby being only six weeks old. Although I understood very little of Christian Science I tried to help them, but as the baby grew worse, I wrote again to the practitioner for treatment. After a week he was still getting worse, and it seemed as if he were passing on; there were times when we did not know whether he was alive or not. I then took him to the practitioner, who met us at the station. When we arrived at the hotel, the baby had another spell, when it seemed as if he were passing on. I gave him to the practitioner, and she walked away from the crowd which had gathered. In a few minutes she came back, but words cannot describe the change in the baby or myself. I will only say that he has never had another of those spells, although he coughed a little for a short time. Since then many other ailments have been overcome through Christian Science, such as croup, measles, and colds.
Our youngest child, now seven years old, was born under Christian Science treatment, and I was relieved of much suffering at the time. Thus has been proved the truth of Mrs. Eddy's statement in Science and Health (Pref., p. vii), "To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, today is big with blessings." I am truly grateful for the periodicals, also for the Lesson-Sermons, which enable all to make continuous progress in Christian Science. Even though we do not have the opportunity of going to church, we have everything we need; there is no good thing withheld from us.
