My first interest in Christian Science came through reading...
My first interest in Christian Science came through reading some Sentinels that were given me. After reading the testimonies I was so impressed with their sincerity that I said to myself that nothing but the truth could accomplish this healing. Ever since then I have enjoyed the testimonies of others, and I am so grateful to those who have told their experiences that I feel like thanking them all.
Words cannot express my gratitude to those who write the articles for our periodicals. From the time I read my first Sentinel until now I have never failed to find the rebuke, help, comfort, or inspiration I needed, in whatever periodical came to hand. At one time I was healed of a severe cold by reading an article in the Monitor in which the writer quoted the verse of Scripture ending, "Therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee." The true meaning of "lovingkindness" was brought out so clearly that I seemed for the first time to understand it. I had always thought it easy enough to be kind,—often it is much easier and pleasanter to do the little kindness than not,—but was I always "loving" in my "kindness"? I gave myself a careful examination on that question, and then I realized how love, the love that reflects divine Love, must underlie every thought, word, and deed if we are truly to bless those we try to help. By the time I had finished the article and the "mental house-cleaning," so much of a discordant condition of thought had been destroyed that the cold was gone and I felt entirely free.
My gratitude for the physical healing was indeed great, but the spiritual light that had flooded my consciousness and purified my thought enough to make the healing possible, was cause for even greater rejoicing. I cannot do enough to prove how grateful I am to God that I have found Christian Science. To Mrs. Eddy, who discovered this truth and presented it to the world, my heart goes out with constantly increasing gratitude and appreciation. My constant desire is to help others to come into this great truth.
