I desire to give my testimony of healing through Christian Science...
I desire to give my testimony of healing through Christian Science in deep gratitude to this teaching and in thankfulness that it came my way; also because all the literature, including the expressions of gratitude in testimonies, helps me every week. While it is now three and a half years since I first read Science and Health, it has only been during the last year that I have gained something of the peace "which passeth all understanding." I have delayed giving my testimony until this peace became more permanent, as I knew I had not arrived at the spiritual uplift I longed for. My healing has been slow, the result, no doubt, of impatience and the assumption of a load that was beyond my present understanding and strength. After being in bed five months with severe internal inflammation, due to a wad having been left after an operation two years previous, I sent for a copy of Science and Health.
I had suffered for several years and had undergone treatments and operations repeatedly before coming into Science, but none of the operations were successful and the last one was supposedly to prevent me from being an invalid for life. Even then I did not get the health anticipated, and in preference to another operation I wrote for Christian Science literature to a friend who had mentioned the subject some months before. I read Science and Health, but without understanding the full import of the teaching, and though grateful, I found it difficult not to believe in materia medica for some other long-standing ills which seemed stubborn.
Now I can most gratefully mention the healing of several ills, and I am fast realizing what it is to be well and not feel tired continually. I am grateful for the kind help received from others, for there have been times when I have needed it very much. The renewing of the mind indeed lifts us to a higher plane of thought, and in the crisis we are now going through in England and other countries we need to gain an understanding that will help where help is so urgently needed, that help which heals. I shall hope and strive to give as much as I have been given.
