I was perfectly healed of tubercular disease of the lungs...
I was perfectly healed of tubercular disease of the lungs in my first Christian Science treatment. At the time I knew little about Christian Science, and what I had heard was mostly against it. Since babyhood I had suffered from weak lungs, and I steadily grew worse, until in 1903 physical conditions became aggravated. My relatives were hopeless and for a year I struggled against the fear of death. In the spring of 1904, while a sophomore student in high school, I consented to have Christian Science treatment.
One morning, after a terrible night of coughing, my mother asked if I wanted a lady who was a Christian Scientist to pray for me. The friend was a girlhood chum of my mother, and for months previous had kindly brought Christian Science literature to us, but as we were members of another church we gave it little attention. The day of the treatment, which was an absent one, I felt relieved. I rested well that night, and the next morning went to school, healed! I was given the text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, to read, and from it I gradually learned what had healed me. From the first of my healing I recognized a great power and loved it.
I continued my high school studies free from sickness, and later entered a university. When eighteen years old and at college, I began to attend the Christian Science Sunday school. There I gained a practical understanding of the Principle which is Life and Truth. During the years since then I have learned that "divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need" (Science and Health, p. 494). All that I have I owe to Christian Science, and I am one of its grateful beneficiaries.—Florence E. Nichols, Salem, Ore.
