I owe a debt of gratitude to Christian Science, which has revealed to me the power, presence, protection, loving-kindness, and goodness of God. When this teaching was presented to me in London, England, some nine years ago, I was a wreck, both physically and mentally. The mental condition was such that I could not put a sentence together, and the physical condition seemed almost hopeless. A diet cure was tried, and for three weeks I had practically nothing to eat. At the end of that time I was worse than before, and this means of cure had to be relinquished. Then osteopathy was tried, but it had no permanent effect. Finally, nothing was left for me but to find a religion which would satisfy, and I turned to the Bible for help. It was then that I found Christian Science. My first healing was instantaneous, and came through the reading of Science and Health. An organ which was displaced returned to its position. Other conditions yielded slowly, but for four years I struggled on and to a certain extent gained my freedom.

It is, however, for a more recent healing that I especially desire to express my gratitude, since this experience showed me just what Christian Science stands for and what it means to be a Scientist. I was again a physical wreck from nervous breakdown. For several weeks the improvement was gradual, until there was brought to my consciousness the spiritual truth that we have the Christ with us, and in that moment, just for a second, I caught a glimpse of the meaning of that wonderful declaration of Jesus, "I and my Father are one." For several days these truths stayed with me, and an article in one of the Journals was most helpful. I saw not only what the accumulation of right thought meant and was going to mean to me, but that I was simply adding my quota to the accumulated right thinking of the world which is to bring in universal peace, universal salvation.

As I pondered these things I became grateful. Gratitude had been unknown to me for years, and in proportion to my gratitude Science and Health became a new book; its pages were illumined. Soon I experienced the sense of being regenerated, strong, free,—free in the freedom of spiritual law, strong in the might of divine Mind,—and I again felt the joy of living; the joy of overcoming not alone physical suffering but wrong thinking; the joy of knowing God was with me, that where I went He went, and that He was taking care of me. I am grateful for the realization of these truths which bring health, holiness, harmony to mankind, and the consciousness of the kingdom of heaven on earth.
