It would take a long time to tell of all...
It would take a long time to tell of all that Christian Science has done for me and for my family during the past seven years, but I will just give a brief account of my experience and how I was healed of the liquor habit. At the age of nineteen my parents moved to the city, where I fell into the hands of some young sports and my drinking career began. For sixteen years alcohol had the best of me. When I awoke to the fact that the appetite for liquor was fastened upon me I tried to overcome it, but in vain. I took a "cure," but in less than five months was drinking harder than ever. The future looked very dark and I wished many times that I could die.
Then a friend advised me to try Christian Science, stating that he had been healed and that it would heal me. I laughed at him, for my wife and I had talked it over and we were under the impression that Christian Scientists were queer people and that Christian Science was the work of the devil. My friend, however, talked to me for a few moments and then told me that a friend of his was in town who had been healed of the liquor habit by Christian Science, and that he would have this gentleman call on me the next day. This he did. We had a very pleasant visit, and I could plainly see that I had been thinking wrongly about this religion. I told this gentleman that I would give Christian Science a trial, and did so the following week.
I presented my case to a practitioner, and much to my surprise was healed in the first treatment. From that day to this I have never had a desire for liquor. I was also healed of bowel trouble of years' standing, deafness in one ear caused by a shock from an electric battery when a small boy, the tobacco habit, and many other errors. All I have and all I am today I owe to Christian Science, which has met our many needs during all these years.
