In loving gratitude to God, also to our revered Leader, Mrs. Eddy, I shall try to tell how I found Christian Science and what it has done for me. As a girl I attended church regularly with my parents, and some of my happiest recollections are of that church and our kind minister. His wife assisted him devotedly in the work until she became an invalid, and this made a deep impression on me, as I did not want to be good if it meant being sick. I was taught to accept poverty and death as the will of God, and so as I grew older I nearly drifted into atheism, yet there was always the longing for a God I could understand.

About this time I heard a little of Christian Science, and the thought that God knew only good, attracted me. I decided to investigate it for myself and commenced to attend church regularly, at the same time putting my two children, who had received no religious instruction, in the Sunday school. I shall never forget the first day I went into the Sunday school room. I did not expect to meet any one with whom I was acquainted, but the superintendent proved to be an old friend of my mother and had known me as a girl. I was never alone or lacking for friends, and I give this incident to encourage others who may think it necessary to wait for some one to take them to church. If we will turn away from personality and look to God, we shall find the friends that meet our needs.

At first I could not understand very much of Science and Health, but our Leader's tender love which breathes through its pages was as balm to my aching heart. I was told to accept as much as I could and to wait patiently for the rest to become clear to me. There was much to overcome, but after I had grasped the fact of man's oneness with God it became my life-work to prove it. My progress was slow, for many faults and sins were uncovered that I did not know existed for me. I was healed of nervous exhaustion, of a sense of poverty, and of discord in my family relations.
