Seven years ago Christian Science found me on crutches with sciatic rheumatism. I had been given up by two doctors, who said my only hope was an operation, but that it might leave me a cripple for life. Even with crutches I could not walk without great suffering. Driven to despair, the thought of self-destruction was fast getting the mastery of me, when Christian Science brought the truth. In three treatments the pain had gone, and the fifth day I walked two and a half miles without crutches, pain, or trouble of any kind. Shortly afterward I went back to work. Since then I have had my eyes burned accidentally with lime and my throat burned with ammonia, each case seeming to be very severe; but a few absent treatments helped me quickly.

In the fall of 1914 I was taken ill with hard chills and pain in the right side. Friends thought I would pass on, and for legal reasons a doctor was called. He summoned another doctor for consultation, and they both pronounced the ailment an acute attack of appendicitis and said that an operation must be performed at once; but I refused to undergo it, knowing that God could be trusted to do more than the knife or doctors, and again Truth did its perfect work. May my life show my gratitude and love for what Christian Science has done for me and mine, and may my mental sight behold always the perfect man, made in God's image and likeness.
