Real Christians cannot entertain thoughts of evil, because Christian thoughts are derived from God alone, and He knows no evil. If professed Christians entertain thoughts of evil and hate, and voice unkind utterances toward others, they are not thinking God's thoughts; they are believing in the presence and power of more than one God or intelligence, thereby forfeiting their right to be called Christians. Christian Science is the Christianity taught and practised by Jesus of Nazareth two thousand years ago, and established in this age through the book "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. This is the Christianity which a woman evangelist attacked in her sermon in a building dedicated to the cause of "on earth peace, good will toward men."

The world will some day admit that Christianity is a thing of the heart as well as of the head. It will see that he is the best Christian who does the most good in the world, irrespective of creed or dogma. Jesus did not point out that true discipleship could be measured by the tenacity of one's belief about his teachings, but by one's ability to put these teachings into practice. Hear these words: "He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also;" again: "Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give."

If the critic had studied the Christian Science text-book instead of the writings of those aiming to disprove its merit, I am sure she would have found in it only that which is in harmony with the Sermon on the Mount. At the present time she is not in fact attacking Christian Science, but that which she believes Christian Science to be. The writer submits that it is the sacred duty of the minister of the gospel to turn his flock into the path of truth, not out of it.
