It affords me great joy to tell of the healing which I have experienced through Christian Science. A few years ago I contracted a disease of the right hand as the result of an accident, and the thumb became very much swollen. I held a position at that time which required me to use my hand, the condition thereby becoming aggravated. Although I bathed my hand every three hours, the pain grew more and more severe. I now felt I must seek medical aid, and the physician pronounced the trouble tubercular gangrene in the severest form. An incision was made and the discharge removed, but as it quickly returned, the physician said that the finger would have to be amputated. He intended to operate at once, but to this I would not consent, for I thought there must be some other and better remedy. I immediately went home and then tried another physician, but the verdict was the same. Five different physicians saw me, but none of them would give me any hope, as the arm by this time had become swollen and the diseased condition had reached the shoulder. Almost a year had elapsed since the trouble started, and both the pain and the thought of probably losing my arm drove me to despair.
It was then that a dear relative called on me and asked me to attend a Christian Science service with her. She said she knew that I could be healed, and asked a practitioner to take the case. I consented, and behold the wonder!—the pain decreased instantly, and we went home filled with joy and gratitude. The fingers, which presented a very bad appearance as a result of the long standing disease, gradually became normal, and the affection with attendant swelling of the arm yielded completely. There has been no relapse since.
For the great help and all the good which I have received through Christian Science I am most deeply grateful to God, and thankful to our revered Leader, Mrs. Eddy.
