[Written for the Sentinel]

"Life's burdens light"

"Each man shall bear his burden." This true word
Brought peace and joy one stressful eventide
After a day of toil. I plainly heard
Paul's message, and the flood-gates opened wide
To let in gratitude. "He shall rejoice
Within God's word alone." Again the voice
Of Truth brought consolation. Truly, Love
Was leading me in ways I knew not of.

"Each man shall bear his burden." Ah, the peace
Of trusting God alone in troublous hour,
Of talking, walking, praying,—taking these
Steps heavenward with Him whose only power
Is good. Each man his burden bearing, here
And now, with gentle fortitude and cheer,—
Each man rejoicing in God's word alone
Shall bear his burden till he reach Love's throne.
