It is about ten years since I first heard of Christian Science
It is about ten years since I first heard of Christian Science. My progress has been slow, for there was much to unlearn as well as to learn. In looking back to the starting-point, I find I have indeed traveled far, and am truly thankful to God for His loving-kindness and mercy, and grateful to our revered Leader, Mrs. Eddy, for the priceless benefit she has conferred on mankind through her unselfed love, her teaching, and her writings.
Before I learned of Christian Science I suffered constantly from headache, and when fatigued took it as a matter of course that my throat should be affected and my voice very weak. These conditions were, however, quickly healed without treatment; they just disappeared. I had also suffered at times for many years from rheumatic affection of the knee and shoulder joints, these becoming very painful and stiff, but it is now quite five years since I had any trouble of that sort. Then for some years I suffered from a skin disease, but I have been entirely healed of this through the application of the little understanding I gained of the truth through reading and studying Science and Health. Two chronic ailments, one the outcome of the other, have been healed.
In October, 1912, I returned from the country, where I had rather a large household to look after, feeling very ill, and as alarming symptoms appeared, my husband (who is not a Christian Scientist) became anxious and insisted on my having advice. Since he did not object to my having help in Science, I sent a messenger to a practitioner, but she was away from home and would not return until the following evening. I therefore tried that night to realize the omnipotence and omnipresence of God and the powerlessness of evil, and by morning I was considerably relieved of the pain. The practitioner returned that evening and began treatment, but sent word for me to call upon her the following morning. This I did and walked into her office perfectly well.
