A few years ago our family physician, after an examination...
A few years ago our family physician, after an examination, told me I should undergo an operation as soon as possible. He claimed there was a serious displacement and a diseased appendix, with adhesions. I told him I did not think my family would consent to an operation, as my mother had just been healed through Christian Science treatment; but he laughed at the idea of my being healed that way.
I had unlimited faith in this physician's opinion, but I thought I would first talk the matter over with my mother, and did so. She agreed to my having the operation provided I would first try Christian Science treatment for a month, and this I consented to do. After the first week I became interested, and before the month was up I was so much improved that I felt the operation was unnecessary. After the lapse of several weeks more I realized that I was perfectly healed, not only of the trouble for which I had treatment, but of other ailments as well, especially of a rectal displacement, which disappeared after the first treatment; and the healing has been permanent. A few months ago the doctor who pronounced the operation necessary, asked permission to examine me, as he could not understand my appearance of perfect health, and upon examination found no evidence of the trouble. For this I was very grateful, although I did not need this proof, as I knew I was perfectly well.
The most wonderful part of Christian Science is the new and broader interest it awakens in one to gain a greater understanding of God and his fellow men. Moreover, the study of this truth quieted all my old doubts and fears. Up to the time I began this study the Bible had seemed little else than a mass of impossible fables and contradictions, but studied in connection with "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, I find it an ever present help and guide.
