Some time ago I had a very convincing proof of the protecting power of God that we learn to utilize through knowledge gained in Christian Science. My employment is that of a trainman on one of New England's railroads, and in that capacity I have experienced many instances of this healing and protecting power. In October, 1913, we had what seemed to be a very serious wreck. Our train was running at a high rate of speed, when I noticed the head cars pitch to one side, and the thought immediately came to me that we were off the track. Instantly I began to declare the allness of God and to know that He did not cause accidents. The cars did not go down a steep embankment, which was just beside where they were derailed, neither did they overturn; but they rested at an angle of considerably over forty-five degrees.
I was thrown on my head against some steam pipes, but in less than two minutes I was out of the car to make sure that we had not blocked the other track. I did not know that I was hurt until my attention was called to a flow of blood which came from a cut I had received on the head. I was startled at first, but immediately began to hold steadfastly to the Science of being, and I was able to go about helping passengers out of the cars, taking the names and addresses of over fifty people. I did not have my head dressed until after the surgeon had attended to all the passengers who were hurt, but no one was seriously injured. The doctor who dressed my head told me that I was hurt more seriously than any one in the wreck, but I worked through on my run to the terminal of the road, and ate a good supper when I reached there. The next morning I took off the bandages and have not had any trouble with my head since, as the cut healed quickly and without any soreness whatever. At the time of the accident it was raining hard, in consequence of which I was soaked through, and did not get dry until I reached home several hours afterward; but I suffered no bad effects from this exposure.
Eight years ago I was healed, through the study of Mrs. Eddy's works and the Bible, of the liquor and tobacco habits, and of a very immoral way of living. Since that time Christian Science has been my only help for every mental and physical trouble that I have experienced, and my life has been ever so much happier, healthier, and more beneficial to mankind. This is the sure result for every one who will seek God first. I offer this testimony as evidence of my heartfelt gratitude for all that Christian Science has done for me.
