Nine years ago I was led to investigate Christian Science, not for any physical healing for myself, but for my son, then eleven years old. One day in September he had gone with some playmates to the shore. In jumping from the end of a bridge, he struck on a sunken log and hurt the ball of his foot, which pained him so much that he came home. I examined the foot, bathed it, and thought it would be all right, but in the morning he could not put it on the floor, as it seemed to be drawn up; so I sent for a physician, who examined it and said that the foot was badly strained. He attended my son for two months, using liniments and bandages, and at last tried an electric battery, but each time the battery was used the boy's whole side was affected, so that it was almost useless for a while.

About this time a neighbor came in, and in speaking of the boy's foot, asked why I did not try Christian Science. I inquired what it was, for I had heard of this religion but knew nothing about it. She told me that she was not a Christian Scientist, but she had a relative who was, and she knew that Scientists did some wonderful work. Then she gave me the lady's address, and after my son and I had talked the matter over we decided to write for treatment. This I did, and the practitioner wrote me that God would heal my son, explained something of the teaching of Christian Science, and said she would take up treatment at once. She also advised me to go to a lady living near me, who would lend me a copy of Science and Health; so I got the book, and my son and I started to read. It seemed difficult to understand at first, but after a while I began to see and believe.

My son's healing began from the first treatment. His toe, which would stick up straight in spite of all we could do, went down where it belonged; and his leg, which had shrunken to half its natural size, began slowly to fill out. We kept on with the treatment until March. One morning I got up early to read and pray, and I had the feeling that my son would walk that day; but he came out on one foot as usual. I told him I felt sure he would walk that day, and he said he thought so, too. I therefore told him to read and pray while I was getting breakfast, and he did so, with the result that in half an hour he came out walking on both feet. In a few days he could put his shoe on, and from that time he gained very fast. He is now twenty years old and in the navy, having passed a physical examination, and he has never had any more trouble with his foot or leg. He is a stanch Christian Scientist, and so am I.
