Ill health drove me out of business, then out West, and after that it cornered me. This meant either utter defeat, or else that I must turn and defend myself with the sword of Truth. At a very critical moment, when all material remedies had failed and the physicians said I could not live, I found this weapon of defense in Christian Science. I had been in the street railway service about ten months, when some one left a Christian Science Sentinel in my car. I read this out of mere curiosity, but immediately called on a practitioner for treatment and purchased the text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." As a result, I was cured of severe heart trouble, stomach disorder, nervousness, constant headache, backache, also of weak eyes, for which I had been wearing glasses six years. Where I used to consider almost every one who came on my car as an enemy, with no respect for a conductor, I am now able to see the real man in my passengers,—at least in a degree. My one great desire is to know God, and man in His image and likeness.
My work has become play as compared with four years ago. I have had Christian Science class instruction, which is indeed a "pearl of great price." Our fifteen months' old baby has known hardly an hour's illness, and has never had a drop of medicine, as Christian Science is our only remedy. Our little boy was healed of rupture through my understanding of Christian Science, after he had worn a truss for three years. Jesus said, "Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest," and Christian Science has indeed proved his words to be true in this age. I am very thankful to God, also grateful to our beloved Leader, who has again given this wonderful truth to the world.
