Referring to the report of a lecture by the Rev. Mr.—on Christian Science, in a recent issue, I would like to call attention to the essential difference between Christian Scientists and examples of other Christian sects, as exemplified by the lecturer, and possibly from this your readers may be able to draw for themselves the correct conclusion as to whether or not Christian Science is Christian.

Christian Scientists do not indulge in arguments, controversies, or public debates, because they cannot find that such was the method either prescribed or followed by the Founder of Christianity, his disciples and apostles, and the early Christians. An examination of the works and words of the Master and his followers seems to indicate that the real purpose in expounding the newer religion, which has since been called Christianity, was to break away from the older methods of religion, which consisted in dialectic discussions, controversies, and "doubtful disputations," and to establish religion on the basis of doing rather than mere talking.

When Jesus was asked to establish his title to the Messiahship, he did not deliver a lecture or sermon, but pointed to his works: "Go and show John again those things which ye do hear and see: the blind receive their sight, and the lame walk; the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear; the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them." This Christian Scientists are doing today, and thereby they are demonstrating that religion is not a mere matter of sentimental emotion, passing exaltation, and excitement of the sentiments, but a fixed principle for daily application and practical demonstration in working out the problems of life.
