The Master said, "Freely ye have received, freely give"
The Master said, "Freely ye have received, freely give." I have received so much in Christian Science that it is indeed a joy to give. I was healed of hip disease and a broken kneepan after being lame for three years. The kneepan was broken in several pieces, and the broken pieces could be easily felt. The limb was about two inches short and the hip out of place. The hip was set and reset, but it never remained in place longer than a few days at most, and the pain was almost unbearable, except when I was under the influence of an opiate.
Everything was done that was possible, and eight doctors were tried, but with only temporary help. I went from one brace to another, and also used crutches, while sometimes for months I would lie in bed unable to move. At last, in desperation, I was taken to a New York specialist of world-wide reputation. He gave me no hope of entire recovery, but said that when I was stronger he would operate and remove the broken parts, and perhaps I would suffer less. He fitted me with an eight-pound weight, and I carried it day and night, in order to make the limbs about the same length; but if the brace was removed the limb would spring back. Then, too, it had wasted away, till it was about the size of an arm. Things seemed hopeless, for I was only about fifteen years old. Still, knowing nothing better, I went twice a week to New York for treatment and tried to be reconciled to the thought of being a cripple for life. Finally, through the help of dear friends I was led to Christian Science, and no one can know the joy I experienced when the practitioner told me I could be healed. I had five days' present and two weeks' absent treatment. At the end of that time I was absolutely healed. I no longer limped or used braces. The limb and hip were normal in size, and the broken pieces found their right places without an operation.
Nearly five years have passed and I have never had the slightest sign of the old trouble. In every way I am a perfectly healthy and normal girl. Words cannot express my gratitude to the dear friends for their loving help, and only by letting my light shine can I prove my love and gratitude for Christian Science.
