In September, 1912, I was taken suddenly ill with typhoid fever. All necessary precautions under materia medica were adhered to and every necessary care was given me, but from the first there was little hope of my recovery. The fever ran its course for four weeks, when I seemed to be improving, but a relapse, together with pleurisy, added to the doubt of recovery. The two disease were fought bravely for three weeks, but with the best medical aid available I was rapidly growing worse, and death seemed inevitable.
At the end of seven weeks I was so weak I could not move, and then acute lung trouble set in. As a last resort, I was persuaded by my brother, who had been my nurse (he was a Christian Scientist), to have Christian Science treatment substituted for the medical means which had done nothing for my recovery, despite the doctor's consciousness efforts. From the moment the practitioner began to treat me I improved, and in five days I was well. Moreover, two sisters who had contracted the fever were also healed by Science treatment. One sister was in the worst stages, and the other had just been taken down.
Besides these wonderful demonstrations, I have witnessed several others. Eye trouble has been healed, stomach disorder has been cured, and bone-spavin in the case of my horse has been overcome. Today, though not a member of the Christian Science organization, I am a firm believer in its teachings, and am more thankful for what it has done for me and my friends than for anything else.
