I want to express my deep gratitude for this wonderful...
I want to express my deep gratitude for this wonderful truth taught in Christian Science. I had the pleasure of attending my first Thanksgiving service in 1912, and since then have realized what thanksgiving really means. It has made me more anxious to tell what has been done for me.
In May, 1909, I went to a Christian Science practitioner for treatment for my little daughter, but the practitioner found that I was more in need of Christian Science than the child. I was disheartened, full of doubt, jealousy, fear, and looking forward to the time when I would be confined to a wheeled chair, unable to be a companion to this little girl, as I had been a cripple, due to what the doctors called spinal meningitis, since I was three years old. My family had tried well known medical professors in Chicago and other cities, but I received little help. The last relief was obtained in Indianapolis, when I was sixteen years old. Instead of gaining after that, things began to get worse, and the outlook was indeed dark, as the cords of my foot and ankle started to contract. My ankle got weaker every day; my leg shortened, the toes drawing under, and without an artificial shoe, heavy and large, I was unable to walk across the room without support. It was at this point that I found Christian Science.
After three months' treatment my foot improved, the cords slackened, and the limb lengthened an inch and three quarters. I discarded all pads and ankle supports, could walk with an ordinary shoe, and did walk to church, over a mile each way. I ceased treatment for some time, but kept up my work and study in Christian Science literature, and then took up the treatment again for a while. I want to say right here that I am a hundred per cent better, and while the cure has not been quite complete to the outward eye, I feel sure that the work is almost done.
