When Jesus made his triumphal entry into Jerusalem the populace gladly acclaimed him as the longed for spiritual deliverer. The priesthood, however, and others in authority opposed him, charging that he stirred up the people. Failing to discredit him, they then accused him of desecrating the Sabbath when he healed a man of a physical deformity. Still unable to accomplish their evil purpose, they charged him with having a devil ; finally they crucified him.

Jesus incurred the hostility of his enemies, surely not because he was a menace to the morals and health of the community, but because he came preaching that which was contrary to the beliefs and practices of entrenched religious and medical systems. A clearer understanding of the truth of being would mean the mental and physical freedom of the people through individual demonstration, but this the rulers did not want. They had been so accustomed to order the lives of others that they would resist to the very limit anything that threatened to lessen their time-honored control.

Thus it will be seen that history repeats itself. Pioneers of progress in all ages have been misrepresented and abused for truth's sake. But opponents, individually and collectively, who thoughtlessly or deliberately attack the truth, instead of dethroning the true idea or impeding its onward march, merely kick against the pricks of freedom and progress. The steady and irresistible advance of the race out of darkness into light furnishes abundant proof of this. Resistance to truth is futile.
