The Lectures
Dr. Francis J. Fluno lectured on Christian Science before a large audience at Kingston Opera House. Judge Jenkins in introducing the lecturer said in part:—
Jesus said, "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." Free from what? Fear, envy, jealousy, hatred, and pain. To sum it all up in one phrase, free from the bondage of sin. "What is truth?" Pilate asked, and would not wait for an answer. We who are not professedly Christian Scientists have observed the body of men and women who seem to be free from the ordinary vicissitudes of life, notwithstanding they are living under circumstances that we would deem adverse, and notwithstanding they are suffering from what we call afflictions. They seem to be able to rise above the clouds and the smoke of battle to a place of clear vision, where they preserve their serenity while others are confused. They tell us they can do these things because they are free, and the reason they are free is that they know the truth. Then we ask with Pilate, "What is truth?" but unlike Pilate we remain for an answer, which will be given this afternoon by the lecturer. — Kingston Express.
