Over a year ago I was taken ill with severe pains in the stomach and back. These attacks had occurred before, but they always wore off in a few hours and I had never had treatment of any kind for them. This time, however, the suffering became so intense that I asked my husband to call a Christian Science practitioner. He wanted me to have a doctor, but I preferred a practitioner, so one was called, and absent treatment was given me that afternoon.
The pain was relieved, and after retiring that night I slept quite soundly until about eleven o'clock, when I awoke in great pain. I prayed aloud to God in my distress, and then my sister advised me to have a doctor and find out what was the matter. By this time I was almost gasping for breath, and it seemed to me that I must get relief soon or pass on, so I said I did not care what was done so long as no time was lost. A doctor who was called, upon examination said I had gall-stones, and that he could do nothing except give me an opiate. I had already grown easier, but he administered the drug and then left. The next day I wrote to the same Christian Science practitioner, telling him my experience, and asked him to treat me again. After two weeks' treatment I felt that all fear of the trouble was gone, and it has never returned.
I have had numerous demonstrations of Truth's healing efficacy, and it has brought comfort and strength in many a trial. We have two little children, and although my knowledge of Science is limited, it is a great help in overcoming my fears for them. My thankfulness to God for this truth as taught by Mrs. Eddy is unbounded.
