Six years ago I was healed through Christian Science of...
Six years ago I was healed through Christian Science of lung trouble in one of its worst forms. In 1908 I caught a severe cold, which finally settled on the lungs. The doctor did all he could for me, but I steadily grew worse. On account of continual coughing and severe pains in the left side I was unable to lie down, so I had to be propped up with pillows to get a little rest. My parents were worried, but when a trip to Florida was spoken of the physician said that it would be of little use, as one lung was already gone and the disease had settled in the other, and that I could not live more than a few weeks. My parents were, however, determined to go South, and we left in January for St. Augustine. I now realize that divine Love was leading me.
I was not benefited by the ten weeks that we spent in Florida, but when we were about to return home, a lady with whom we had become acquainted placed the Christian Science text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, in my room with the request that I read it, and I did so. When I returned the book, she told me her daughter had been healed through the study of it. I became deeply interested, realizing that at last I had found something that would help me. She gave me the name of a practitioner, and after the first treatment I felt as though I never wanted to see medicine again. We started for home in about a week, and on my way I stopped over at Cincinnati to place myself in the hands of a practitioner whom I had formerly known outside of Christian Science. Through her help and occasional visits I was greatly benefited, but when winter came again the fear returned, and also the cough.
As we were new in Science and had not sufficient faith in Truth, we started for the South again. At Tampa I became associated with a number of Christian Scientists, and they helped me in my studies. Finally, through a more persistent study of the text-book I lost the belief that my health was dependent on climate, and when I went home I felt like a different person and knew I was healed. Since then I have spent the winters in my home town and am healthier and happier than ever before, all of which proves that God is not confined to a locality but is everywhere.
