I came into Christian Science about three years ago through the healing of an illness which the doctors called a serious stomach and bowel disorder, and also a severe head trouble from which I had suffered for years, and for which every material remedy brought to my notice had been tried, as well as several doctors. No relief was experienced, however, from material means; on the contrary I continued to get worse. When I heard of Christian Science I decided as a last resort to give it a trial. Before going to the Christian Science practitioner I had been unable to eat anything except light food, but after the first treatment I was able to eat a hearty meal, and have done so every day since. With six treatments all the other ailments disappeared. From the day of the first treatment I have not used any medicine or applied any material remedies. Christian Science has brought me back to health peace, and joy, and more than that, it has given me a God who is with us at all times in all places and is always a God of love. It has also taught me the value of right thinking.
While I have not yet worked out my full salvation, I have received many blessings and have made many demonstrations in my own family and for others. I have had to do a great deal of mental work for myself; however, I found that fear was the origin of the discord. One by one I have had to master its different phases, knowing that "he that feareth is not made perfect," for divine Love is all, and there is no room for fear in thought. I shall never forget how the fear was first cast out of my consciousness, and how under all the trouble and human anxiety there was a note of joy. Truly, as Mrs. Eddy says, "the effects of Christian Science are not so much seen as felt" (Science and Health, p. 323).
The physical healing was indeed wonderful, and is much to be greatful for; but the spiritual light, joy, and peace which I experienced at the same time is beyond words to express. My prayer is that by more willing obedience to Truth each day I may prove my thankfulness to God, the giver of every good and perfect gift, and my love for our dear Leader, who brought us this Science.
