It is seven years since I turned to Christian Science, and...
It is seven years since I turned to Christian Science, and during that time no material remedies have been used. I began the study of this religion for physical healing, having been a sufferer for many years from intestinal disorders. Even an operation left me no better in health, and I was greatly worried and discouraged. Then I obtained a copy of our text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, from a practitioner, and after reading it diligently for two days I decided to try Christian Science. I well remember the evening that I destroyed several kinds of medicine and earnestly began the study of this truth. There was a steady gain in health from the first, and the fear of eating certain kinds of food was soon destroyed. I was very glad to be released from this bondage. Then bowel trouble was overcome, and again I was thankful. Thoughts of envy and jealousy have also been eliminated.
During these years I have many times been able to prove the healing efficacy of Christian Science. One experience in applying my understanding of this teaching stands out in memory very plainly. While working for a mining company in the southern part of the state of Sinaloa, Mexico, I was sent to the nearest port to receive a shipment of mining machinery. After finishing this business, I started on the return trip, and as it was a journey of two or three days, I had to stay overnight in a small Mexican town. In the evening I was suddenly taken with a severe fever and felt very ill; a feeling of loneliness came over me too, but I at once applied my understanding of Christian Science, and after a few hours' work went to bed and to sleep. When morning came I awoke entirely free. For this demonstration I was very thankful, as it proved to me that divine Love is an ever present help. Even if I had wanted to do so, I could not have sent to any one for help; but herein lies the blessedness of Christian Science, that at any time or in any place we can apply our understanding of its teachings.
I rejoice in the peace of mind gained from the study of this healing truth. I am thankful to God, and grateful to our dear Leader, Mrs. Eddy, for this wonderful religion, which is daily freeing all mankind from bondage.
