We have had many wonderful experiences and seen many...
We have had many wonderful experiences and seen many demonstration of the healing power of divine Love as taught in Christian Science during the past seven years, for which we thought we were very grateful. We have now experienced the protecting and healing power of Truth, whereby our sense of gratitude has been really awakened.
On Aug. 1, 1913, our boy, fifteen and a half years old, was run over by an ice wagon weighing thrity-seven hundred pounds. The front wheel passed over his foot and the back wheel went diagonally from his right hip across his chest and over his left shoulder. He was to the hospital in an ambulance, and the doctors said that practically every bone above the hips was broken or dislocated. We telephoned to a Christian Science practitioner, who gave absent treatment immediately. An attempt was made to get a practitioner who could come to the hospital, but it was eight hours after the accident had occurred before he came, and even then he did not see the patient. In the mean time one or two more treatments had been given by the first practitioner and his wife. The hospital authorities asked permission to operate, but this was repeatedly refused, because we were confident that God is all-power. Only absent treatments were given.
On the third day an X-ray picture failed to show the slightest sign of a fracture. On the eleventh day the boy was taken out of the hospital and examined by a specialist, who found no evidence of a fracture except a slight injury to the left collar-bone, which he said was of no consequence, as it would heal where it was in a few weeks and be as good as ever. Six weeks after the occurrence the boy was away on a vacation and preparing to resume work. He felt no ill effects, and is today strong and healthy. Words are inadequate to express our gratitude. We are in the position of the blind man healed by Jesus, who said, "One thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see."
