During the four years since I came into Christian Science,...
During the four years since I came into Christian Science, I have had much for which to be thankful. Although at times the way has seemed very dark, Truth has on each occasion cleared away all the clouds. When first coming into Christian Science I was taken with what seemed a bad attack of bronchitis. My condition was such that it seemed impossible to put into practice even the little of its teachings that I knew at the time, and after sending for a practitioner to come and treat me I lay in bed, fearing that I would not be able to bear her talking to me; but in place of all this, a calm and peace came over me which at the time I did not understand. I can now see that the practitioner came with such loving and pure thought, and was able to realize the truth so clearly that I was healed then. I was able to get up the next morning, well!
My heart indeed rejoices, and I thank God most fervently when I think how on a previous occasion I was laid up for weeks with the same ailment. This year again it tried to present itself, and was overcome in Science but not so quickly, although I was not prevented from attending to my daily duties. It is not until we ponder and go back over our many blessings that we find how much one really has for which to be thankful.
On another occasion I was taken with what seemed an attack of lumbago, keeping me in bed nearly all Sunday, quite unable to turn on the one side. I however worked steadily on, declaring the truth, until the next morning came when I had to get up and go to my business. I knew I could only do this in one way, so I arose knowing that God was my strength and nothing could impede the action of truth. At first I found walking a little difficult, but as the day advanced I felt nothing of it. This was a tremendous help to me for I found if I held firmly to the truth no matter what the physical condition seemed to present, health, strength, perfect action were there all the time; it was only for us to see and to know. I have not given my thanks publicly before, so my heart rejoices now in sending this testimony. My thanks go out to our loving Father, God, and to Mrs. Eddy, who has brought us this practical knowledge.
