The Greeley Republican takes a clergyman to task for...
The Camera
The Greeley Republican takes a clergyman to task for repeating in Greeley his sermon on Christian Science that so stirred the people of Boulder. This is one of the doctor's worst efforts. It is going out of the way to sow the seed of discord, and the Republican tells the good man some real truths. If one were to ask us wherein Christian Scientists differ from other sects, we would say that it is in the breadth of view, the always manifest spirit of optimism, the determination to look at this world of ours as a pleasant sojourning place and to see good and God in everything. Christian Scientists try to do their best, and their unselfish devotion to humanity is one of the sweetest demonstrations of contemporary religion. Maybe they cannot curse, but they have cured. Maybe their conception of the Christ-faith and healing power in followers of the Christ is erroneous, but they make people forget their ills and have tried to make all happier. One gets nowhere by preaching chastisement and torment as the goads to righteousness and the penalties for sin. One scales the heights and looks from a proud eminence when he preaches the gospel of love and universal brotherhood.
