I have often thought of sending in my testimony of what...

I have often thought of sending in my testimony of what Christian Science has done for me, but I have always been at a loss to know what to say. I know, however, that these testimonies are living witnesses, for my wife was led to study Christian Science from reading them in the periodicals.

About sixteen years ago my mother wanted me to go to the Christian Science meetings, but I told her I did not care to do so, as they did not interest me, and so she said no more. Soon after this my brother and I were clearing up an old stack bottom in the meadow, and I found some roots which I thought were artichokes, so I ate one. When we had finished our work we went up to the barn, and I told my brother that the artichoke had made me sick. He went after grain for the horses, and I started to go to the house, but had not gone far when I fell to the ground and became unconscious. When my brother came back, he saw me on the ground, and got a neighbor to help him. That was about six in the evening, and it was nearly eleven before they could get a doctor.

At first the doctor thought I was dead; he could not pry my teeth apart to give me the medicine, so he injected a drug hypodermically. Then they sent for my parents, who were fourteen miles away. When mother asked the neighbor how I was, she was informed that the doctor said he did not think I could live another hour, and it had already been nearly two hours. Mother said she did not know what to do, that the only thing she could think of was that God is good; and she kept repeating this truth on the way. When they got home, she was told that I was better.
