About fifteen years ago I found what all my life I had been...
About fifteen years ago I found what all my life I had been in need of—the Christ-teaching. My childhood was not joyous and active, as it should have been. Pain was a constant companion, and to be free from headache seemed to me would be heaven. As I grew to womanhood, instead of getting stronger I spent much of my time in bed, in as quiet a place as I could find, for at times even a footstep on a carpeted floor jarred me. Change of climate, electricity, different schools of medicine, all failed to bring health. One conscientious Christian physician said to me after I had undergone an operation: "You can never be free from neuralgia in this world; such a case as yours is never healed. If a physician could heal it, he would become famous."
I prayed to be healed, and one day a friend inquired why I did not try Christian Science. Eagerly I asked her to tell me more about this teaching. I had questioned a few people about it, but they had urged me not to try it, not even to read about it. In response to my inquiries, my friend went home and came back with "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, saying, "Read it." This I did for hours, and I slept better that night than I had for years. The next morning I bought a copy and began to study it. My healing was not rapid, but it was and is sure. Soon I had the joyful benefit of class instruction, and I have since devoted much of my time to what I love best to do, that is, help to free others from disease and sin by the word of God as taught in Christian Science.
