I am sure that my acknowledgment of the benefits received...
I am sure that my acknowledgment of the benefits received from the study of Christian Science is long overdue, and that nothing can be gained by waiting for further experience or progress. I first heard of Christian Science about six and a half years ago, when a friend lent me some copies of the Sentinel. For some time previous I had been in very poor health. I had consulted several doctors for relief from stomach trouble, and of course had taken a large quantity of medicine. Since October, 1907, I have not had occasion to use medicine. Several severe attacks have been met and overcome by absent treatment from a Christian Science practitioner, and my outlook on life is now much brighter and happier than before.
It is impossible for me to recount the many blessings that have come to me as a direct result of the study of Christian Science. In my business life I receive constant help, and I am often able to rectify errors that would otherwise occasion loss or annoyance. Although I am thankful for the physical help, I am more thankful for the way in which Christian Science explains God and the Bible. I was at one time a church-member, but I drifted away from the church. The more I learn of Christian Science, however, the more I am convinced that our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, has revealed to us the truth about God. I was often perplexed as to the nature and purpose of the Almighty, and thought that the various preachers rather contradicted themselves, for they certainly confused me.
As an apparently isolated member of our church, I must say how very helpful I find our literature. I was previously much addicted to the reading of novels and other books, but now I desire little else than our various publications and our Leader's writings. Science and Health is a living book to me, for it enables me to understand and believe the Bible. When depressed and sick, I have found healing in its inspiring pages. I have no hesitation in saying that I owe my present happiness and success entirely to my endeavor to live up to the exalted teaching of Christian Science.
