In May, 1912, when a business trip took me to Dallas, Texas, the change of climate was marked, and the unusual heat affected the digestive system. Before reaching home a week later, a very severe attack of dysentery had made its appearance. From the time I reached my house on Friday until the following Sunday morning, the pain increased to what seemed an unbearable degree, so that my efforts to help myself were futile. Sunday afternoon, about four o'clock, a Christian Science practitioner was called, and a half-hour of silent treatment was followed by an audible declaration of the truth. I was told that I could "rise in the strength of Spirit to resist all that is unlike good" (Science and Health, p. 393). By five o'clock I was dressed for dinner and that evening ate a substantial meal. On Monday I returned to work at the usual hour.
Gratitude for relief from excruciating physical agony impels this rather tardy acknowledgment of the help that divine Love has given me.—Lucius E. Wilson, Detroit, Mich.
