About the middle of November, 1909, I suddenly became...
About the middle of November, 1909, I suddenly became afflicted with acute rheumatism of the joints, and upon my physician's advice I at once went to a hospital. My condition, however, grew steadily worse, inflammation of the chest and dropsical heart trouble being added, and I was given up by the physicians because of the irregular heart action.
My wife then heard of Christian Science and immediately communicated with a practitioner, who took up treatment for me. There was a noticeable change in my condition, and the high fever abated considerably during the night, to the astonishment of the nurse. This marked improvement encouraged my wife, and she decided that I should be removed from the hospital. On the following day she came, accompanied by a gentleman, a friend of ours, to take me away, although the physicians were emphatic in their remonstrance, as my condition was said to be hopeless and the removal might mean death. After my wife had signed a bond releasing the management from all responsibility, I was taken home, and I immediately began to gain in strength. I became brighter every hour, and was sufficiently restored within a few days to be able to leave my bed. In a short time I was completely healed and able to attend to my business. I write this testimony with deep-felt gratitude to Christian Science and its Discoverer.
Willy Bergmann, Berlin-Charlottenburg, Germany.
