Deep gratitude impels me to write this testimony
Deep gratitude impels me to write this testimony. Before I became acquainted with Christian Science I was a wreck in every respect. Bankruptcy was but a question of weeks, and the difficulties I had gone through, in addition to poverty, fear, and despair, had greatly affected me physically and mentally. Help, however, was nearest when my extremity seemed to be greatest. I heard of Christian Science and became acquainted with a practitioner at the bedside of an invalid.
I was under the impression at first that the help derived through Christian Science applied to sick people only, but my great sense of need caused me to tell the practitioner of my distressing circumstances. Those who have had similar experiences will understand how glad I felt at being able to go home with the assurance that such conditions were indeed responsive to the truth. The practitioner lovingly gave me the necessary information and took up treatment for me, and within a few days all notices which I had received were withdrawn, even though the term of some of them had already expired; then with a sense of new courage I undertook to grapple with my problem.
To be sure, I went through many dark hours, but divine Love never failed either in the smallest or in the largest of my problems, and it never has failed when I have turned to it with singleness of heart. There was much that had to be adjusted, as my affairs were in a chaotic state, and when I look back, it seems to me as if a wonder had been wrought. In the measure of my discernment of the fact that God, divine Love, is the creator, maintainer, and sustainer of man, my affairs were straightened out. Fear and doubt had to be overcome, as I lapsed time and again into the mistake of fixing my gaze more upon material conditions than upon God; but I was steadily shown the right way. Infinite Love made it possible for me to fulfil my obligations and to give full satisfaction to my creditors. I now live in orderly circumstances, and I know that divine Love amply supplies all my needs.
