The Post-Standard

Several articles have appeared in The Post-Standard referring to Christian Science. One of these, an editorial, spoke appreciatively of a stanza from one of Mrs. Eddy's hymns, but concluded with the statement that this "expresses not Christian Science, but Christianity." Another gave the impression that the Christian Science movement is in financial difficulties; and an item, the report of a lecture, stated that the speaker included Christian Science in what is called "New Thought."

There are many interpretations of Christianity; and while Christian Science is apparently not the one accepted by the editorial writer, this should hardly be taken as an occasion for branding it other than Christian. The assumption that "orthodoxy is my doxy," and "heterodoxy is another man's doxy," is no longer entertained by broad-minded people. The fact that the stanza spoken of was the outgrowth of Mrs. Eddy's experience in the promulgation of Christian Science, and that its sentiment is acknowledged to be Christian, is proof in itself that Christian Science is Christianity.

As to the financial affairs of the Christian Science movement, let it be said that no difficulties are being experienced. With respect to spiritual thought bringing affluence, commented on in this editorial, reference might be made to the Wayshower, Christ Jesus, who fed the multitude, provided tribute money, and wine for the marriage feast, because of his spiritual understanding. Also, the children of Israel were fed with manna, and otherwise abundantly provided for, when their thought was spiritually directed.
