In a reference I have read, in a recent issue, to the speech made by Lord Sandwich at University College, mention is made of Christian Science, which is classed among "methods" which profess to heal by the manipulation of the mind. Christian Science practise has nothing whatever in common with any such influence. The one thing which a Christian Science practitioner does not, and indeed can not do, is to control the mind of his patient. "Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus," is the Scriptural injunction, an injunction which Christian Scientists strive daily to obey. The mere control or manipulation of the human mind can result in nothing more than a change of belief, not in increased spiritual understanding.

In exactly the same way as the knowledge of the truth about a false statement in mathematics, such as that three and three are seven, corrects that mistake and proves that it never was true, so the correct understanding of God and man, as taught by Christ Jesus and reiterated by Mrs. Eddy, must inevitably result in the healing of the belief in the reality of what the great first cause or creator never did create. Christian Science is to be compared with nothing but the teaching of Jesus the Christ, which it reiterates, and any system not strictly in accordance with his teaching, bears not the faintest resemblance to it.
