THE LECTURES
A lecture on Christian Science was delivered by Virgil O. Strickler, before a large and interested audience, in Dreamland rink, under the auspices of Second Church of Christ, Scientist. The lecturer was introduced by Charles A. Davie, who said :—
The subject of Christian Science is engaging the attention of people over practically all of the civilized world, and there is much speculation among the uninformed as to what it is. While it is believed to be similar in some respects to other forms of religion and healing, yet it tends to upset theories which have long been accepted as true, and on which these systems have been founded. Various human opinions are expressed concerning Christian Science, but many of these are misleading and harmful, being based on ignorance rather than upon knowledge. Some suppose that Christian Science is merely a method of healing physical disease without the use of drugs, and this gives rise to the belief that anything which professes to heal the ills of the flesh through other than material means is Christian Science. This Science does heal bodily sickness, and without the use of drugs, but what it is can best be told by those who have studied "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. One who has thus studied and practised its teachings is to speak to us this afternoon, and he is qualified and authorized to give information upon this subject, which is of vital importance to all mankind.—Correspondence.
