It is with great pleasure, as well as thankfulness to God...

It is with great pleasure, as well as thankfulness to God for His goodness and mercy in sparing my life, that I can say I am a well man today. Some four years ago I was afflicted with appendicitis, and the pain became so severe that I consulted with physicians, who all told me that the only help I could get was through an operation. I dreaded this very much and my fear was terrible, but I thought it would be necessary to take the only means of help, as I believed at the time. I boarded a train for one of the best hospitals in the country, and on the way met a friend, a business man, who inquired where I was going. I told him. He then recommended Christian Science treatment and left with me a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. I read this book nearly all the way, and I noticed beneficial results, but upon my arrival, when put under the doctor's care, the old enemy appeared again in full force, so I went through the operation, and in a short time returned home.

I seemed to get along fairly well until about two years ago, and then a general complication of diseases set in, and I was again advised by physicians to go through another operation. At this time I got some Christian Science literature and began to read it, and this, together with what I had read previously, caused me to decide that I would take up Christian Science as the best means of help, my wife urging me to do so. Then I bought a copy of Science and Health of my own, as I was in great pain, and could see that something must be done; and thank God, I got help at once from reading the words of our dear Leader, Mrs. Eddy. This was my only means of help, and in a very short space of time I was healed. Like the man that Jesus healed, I can now say, "Whereas I was blind, now I see." Later, some of the symptoms appeared again, but they were overcome with a few treatments by a Christian Science practitioner. I am convinced more and more that God is the only Life, substance, and intelligence of man (see Science and Health, p. 330), and my prayer is that this testimony may help some poor sufferer in need, for it is a pleasure to tell the good news to others. My wife and I are endeavoring to the best of our ability to prove this truth by demonstration.—John S. Elrod, Elrod, S. Dak.
