AMONG THE CHURCHES
CURRENT NOTES.
Ogden, Utah.—Christian Science was first introduced into Ogden about twenty years ago, as a result of the healing of both sickness and infidelity. Services were held in the residences of those who espoused the cause until May 6, 1895, when First Church of Christ, Scientist, was organized, and then services were held in different halls until the organization was strong enough to purchase a church edifice, corner of Lincoln avenue and Twenty-fourth street, where services were held for several years. This location was found to be undesirable and the property was sold; but from the proceeds of this sale a lot was purchased at the corner of Monroe avenue and Twenty-fourth street, where it is intended to erect a church building, the balance being held as a building fund. For about two years two Christian Science services were held, but it was found that one service was sufficient for the city, and after due consideration the two churches united, and are known as First Church of Christ, Scientist. The church now holds Sunday services and Wednesday evening meetings in the new Masonic temple, where a goodly attendance fills the south hall. The church maintains a Christian Science reading-room in the First National Bank building, where Christian Science literature is at the disposal of those wishing to take advantage of same.—The Standard.
Utica, N. Y.—Another advance in the progress of First Church of Christ, Scientist, during its life of almost a score of years in this city, is the decision to erect a new church building on the lot owned by the society at the corner of Genesee street and Avery place. This will cost about forty thousand dollars, it is expected. It is hoped to have the plans approved and bids received, so that work can begin by mid-July. The site, which has been owned by the society for a long time, is in a splendid location.
