Two years ago I learned of Christian Science, and so many have been my blessings that now I pray God to make me grateful for them all. Before that time I had suffered intensely, but now I am quite happy, with no fear, pain, or doubt.
A year ago I moved to a small country town, when malarial fever presented itself. I was a stranger and sixty-eight miles from a Christian Science practitioner, but I knew that God fills all space and I tried to realize that He would help me. After thirty-six hours I felt compelled to go to bed, but I took the Bible, Science and Health, and the Quarterly, and I tried to read the Bible but both books seemed too heavy for me to hold. I then took up the Quarterly and turned to the Lesson on "Love." I read the golden text from the Psalms, "Show thy marvelous lovingkindness, O thou that savest by thy right hand them which put their trust in thee." After reading and pondering this I fell asleep, and in one hour I awoke refreshed and perfectly well.
A few days after this my arm was severely burned, but after a few hours I heard the hymn sung which begins, "How firm a foundation" (Christian Science Hymnal, p. 198), and in thinking of this hymn and the verse from the Bible, it occurred to me that God's right hand was outstretched to help me, and the pain left and the inflammation subsided in a few minutes. The next day the arm was entirely well. I have also been healed of stricture, rheumatism, and headaches of thirty-five years' standing.
