The remarks of Maj. L. N. H. D'Aeth in introducing Prof. Hermann S. Hering, who lectured on Christian Science for Third Church of Christ, Scientist, were in part as follows:—

The old-time prejudice against anything new, especially in religion, the unreasoning, intolerant attitude adopted in former days by many, is fast disappearing and now lectures on Christian Science attract vast crowds of earnest, intelligent people, who are genuinely interested and anxious to learn more of that religion which even those who once came to criticize are bound to admit is bringing day by day health, happiness, and peace to thousands of their fellow creatures.

It is less than fifty years since this new-old religion which was preached to the Jews on the shores of the sea of Galilee nearly two thousand years ago, was rediscovered and reintroduced to mankind as the one and only healing religion of all time, thus confirming the prophecy of our Master when he said, "Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away." Christian Scientists have proved that through the better understanding of the meaning of the Bible which is gained by the help of their text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," the sick are healed of every disease known to man; but it goes far beyond this, for hand in hand and step by step with the healing of the body proceeds the greater work of reformation and regeneration of our moral natures in the destruction of all sin, of hatred, sensuality, drunkenness, dishonesty, and vice of every kind; and the healing of the body is the divinely natural outcome of this regeneration.—Correspondence.
