I give this testimony trusting that it may help some one who has hoped against hope for relief from suffering. In going up the stairs one night, before the gas was lighted, I lost my balance and fell heavily on my right knee. It did not pain me very much then, but as the months went by I found that I could not bend the knee and that walking was very difficult, and I was not able to attend church during the winter. My friends (who are not Christian Scientists) thought I was foolish not to put myself under a surgeon's care, but I surely believed that God was the only physician. One night I could not sleep for the pain, so I got up, and by holding to a chair I managed to reach the gas. From habit I took up the Bible, and it opened to these words: "They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint." It was as though a voice had spoken to me in my great need. Then the thought came, Who are they that shall receive these great blessings? The answer came, "They that wait upon the Lord." I thought I had always trusted in God's help, yet I was very lame. Now, why was it? Then a voice seemed to say, Have you not had it in thought that you ought to have gone to a surgeon? I could not deny it, but then and there I determined to stay up the rest of the night and prove that God was my refuge and strength. As day was breaking, I got up without realizing that I was not holding to a chair for support, but I walked across the floor holding to God's right hand. I was healed! I thanked God, and I have been thanking Him ever since.—Annie L. Walters, Chicago, Ill.
