Those who know something of the teachings of Christian Science,...

The Brighton (England) Herald

Those who know something of the teachings of Christian Science, who have seen the sick and the dying restored to health and the characters of men reformed through its ministrations, cannot but wonder why a clergyman of the Church of England should feel called upon to refer to Christian Science as a "modern folly, which is neither Christian nor scientific." Nevertheless, such are the words attributed to the Rev. Canon Wakeford in the report of his sermon before the members of the Medical Conference gathered in St. Peter's church.

Christian Science is successfully demonstrating to the world that the teachings of Jesus the Christ are applicable to every need of humanity today, just as they were in the days when he was upon the earth. Millions gratefully testify that through the teachings of Christian Science the Christ has become to them a living reality and presence, bringing joy and healing into their lives, making them healthier, happier, and better men and women. Jesus said, "By their fruits ye shall know them." Some would claim the right to be called Christian on the basis of dogma, and would deny this right to those who claim it on any other basis. Christian Science must, however, adhere to the standard of the Master.

If, then, Christian Scientists in the healing of the morally and physically sick are emulating the works of the great Physician, such procedure is undoubtedly scientific. On page 313 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mrs. Eddy says that "Jesus of Nazareth was the most scientific man that ever trod the globe." His followers will accept this statement in proportion to their discernment of the science of Christianity.
