I desire to tell of some of the blessings that Christian Science...
I desire to tell of some of the blessings that Christian Science has brought to our home. My husband met with a severe accident in a runaway, being thrown upon the paved street and badly bruised; but as soon as possible, help in Christian Science was sought. He was confined to the house only one day, and in a few days was perfectly healed.
Shortly after this occurrence, I was taken with a severe cold, which developed into acute lung trouble. I suffered intensely, but in less than a half hour after Christian Science treatment was given me, I was greatly relieved. I was confined to the bed for one day, but after that I was able to attend to my household duties as usual. I had, however, scarcely recovered from this illness when I met with an accident, falling down stairs and injuring my arm at the shoulder. In Science and Health (p. 401) Mrs. Eddy writes, "Until the advancing age admits the efficacy and supremacy of Mind, it is better for Christian Scientists to leave surgery and the adjustment of broken bones and dislocations to the fingers of a surgeon." So a surgeon was called, and in the mean time my husband telephoned to Dayton, Ohio, for Christian Science help. No anesthetic was given, Christian Science proving a panacea in overcoming fear and suffering, and the bone was set without any pain. The physician remarked that I would not sleep any that night, but I fell asleep at nine thirty and slept until four o'clock the next morning. There was no inflammation or swelling, and it is safe to state that I did not experience one hour's suffering. Three weeks from the time of the accident I was able to write two letters with this arm, and after the fourth week was doing all my household duties.
The help I received was mostly through absent treatment. One day, when the physician was putting on a new bandage, he remarked, "Of all the patients I ever had with broken limbs, you are the best; you are always cheerful, and never utter one word of complaint, which is quite unusual in such a case as yours." I am indeed thankful to God for the many blessings that Christian Science has brought to us. Not only are we grateful for the physical healing, but far more grateful for the better knowledge of God, a better understanding of the Bible, and a clearer comprehension of Christ's mission, which Christian Science has brought to us.
