My aim and desire in writing my testimony is that it may...
My aim and desire in writing my testimony is that it may aid some searchers for health, and give them the permanent peace that they desire, whether rich or poor. I was left in miserable health from the birth of our first child, and one of the best physicians in this country told me in 1877 I would be an invalid all my life. I was under medical treatment constantly for twenty-five years, all the time getting worse. Meanwhile complications had set in, such as a serious affection of the kidneys, and loss of sight, hearing, and memory, to such an extent that I could not write two sentences connectedly or even read.
At that time I asked for Christian Science treatment merely to help me for sleeplessness, and I was healed in one treatment. When, therefore, the doctor mentioned an operation for my other trouble, I turned to Christian Science again, an although I gave up material remedies at once, my healing was slow, for, having been raised in the Jewish faith and taught not to accept Jesus as the Christ, I could not even read the Christian Science literature. I floundered along for two years, without God or hope in the world until the day dawned and I learned that "Christ is the true idea voicing good, the divine message from God to men speaking to the human consciousness" (Science and Health, p. 332). The old physical conditions have all been healed through the power of the Word as taught in the Scriptures and Science and Health. The physical is, however, the least of my healing. Three years ago I was called upon to prove practically that God is Life, and that there is no separation in Mind. One very near and dear to me had passed on after four months of illness, but there was no sense of loss, and no reaction, physically or mentally, for I had learned that all is of our Father, and there came a deep peace and a faith that all things are working together for good to them that love God.
I have had many tests since, but the faith that every obstacle can be overcome by the right application of Christian Science, is the rock on which I stand. I am grateful to God, also to our beloved Leader for this truth which is giving health and peace to humanity.
