It is with a heart full of gratitude, and a hope of encouraging others, that I offer this testimony. I have had abundant proofs of God's healing power, as taught in Christian Science. My last experience was to me both beautiful and wonderful. On Christmas eve, 1910, I was delivering some little remembrances, when suddenly my ankle turned and I fell. The pain was very severe, but I declared the truth as best I could, and in a short time came on home, trying to know that there are no accidents in divine Mind. I finished my errands, read from Science and Health, at half past ten went to bed, and was soon asleep. In about an hour, I awoke, however, suffering intensely. I could get no ease in any position, and could not bear any weight on my foot. I again tried to read and to realize the allness of God, good, until morning.
My father, with whom I live, is eighty-eight years old and almost helpless, and as we had no practitioner here, and no telephone in our house, I had to wait till some one came in before I could send word to Kansas City for help, though I was getting around a little with the help of a cane. My brother came, and as my relatives do not believe in Christian Science, he wanted me to have material treatment; but I said I would depend on the "great Physician," who heals all our diseases. I, however, asked him to call a Christian Science practitioner, as I was sure that her understanding of God's law would bring me out all right. They did so about eleven o'clock, and by evening I was using the foot somewhat. I rested well, and the next morning when I was called I jumped out, forgetting I had a lame foot, though it was still swollen. I had to be careful for a few days, but am sure I would have been laid up for perhaps weeks without this blessed truth taught by Christ Jesus, and so helpfully explained by the Founder of Christian Science.
I have been helped a great many times by absent treatment. Our Leader says in Science and Health (p. 495), "God will heal the sick through man, whenever man is governed by God." I am always thankful that there are so many living pure Christian lives, so that they can do the work for us when we fail; and that Mrs. Eddy was good enough to bring this truth to us in such a practical way.
