I have had many experiences of healing in Christian Science, some of them seeming wonderful to me, and for which my gratitude is inexpressible. I would like to tell about one instance in which the healing meant very much to me. I was living in a mining-camp in the mountains, and had been in bed for several days with a very serious throat trouble. I had not been able to eat or drink without great pain, and my daughter went to a Christian Scientist for help. The lady came to my bedside, and as I opened my mouth to show her my throat, she shook her head and repeated the psalmist's words: "I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth." She then closed her eyes, and in a few moments she told my daughter to give me something to eat. In less than fifteen minutes I was eating solid food without any pain, and the next day I was up and well!
Those words from the 121st Psalm meant that I must look to the things which God had made, and they have been of great help to me. A few years later we left the mountains, and I learned another lesson from my son. I had said that I did not like to leave the mountains, and in explanation repeated those verses to him. He then said, "But, mother, is not God everywhere?" I then saw that I had been thinking of the mountains in a material way, even while relating them to the spiritual uplifting of thought. Since then I have proven many times that God is an ever-present help in time of need, whether I am in the mountains or in the valley. I have learned that if I keep my thoughts on the most High, help always comes to me. I am very grateful to our dear Leader for giving us "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures."
