This testimony, which I offer of my own free will and accord, includes the blessings and benefits received through Christian Science. When I first heard of it, about nine years ago, I was sitting by a table with cards in my hand and a bottle of whisky by my side. Its name annoyed me for a moment, but I was silent; then I asked some questions, but did not care to think of it any more. I continued to frequent bar-rooms and gambling-tables for about two year longer, and became a drunkard, which was to my wife and family the cause of much unhappiness and misery. I tried many times to overcome this conditoin with material means, but always failed. Longing for relief with an earnest desire, the memory of the sweet words, Christian Science, came to me every morning when I awoke, but I heeded not.

Over four years ago my brother and wife (this I witnessed) were raised from a dying condition, but I did not know what had healed them. They told me it was Christian Science, and I asked them a few questions, and their answers touched my heart. I then asked my brother the price of a Bible and of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, and I gave him money to get these books for me. I did not then know what the two books contained, but I never got drunk from the day I ordered them. When I received the books I first read Science and Health, and when I had read the first thirty-five pages, I declared to myself that henceforth Truth would be my only doctor and source of supply. From that day the appetite for liquor, card playing, and gambling left me forever.

About three weeks later, when unloading some hay, my little daughter, three years of age, caught the rope when it was in motion and her hand was drawn into th pulley. She was badly hurt, but with a firm trust in the divine care, she was taken up, her was washed, and in a few minutes she was at her play. The hand was entirely healed in a few weeks.
